Message from Assistant Director

Dear Alternative Spring Break Members,

Students Working Onward Together (S.W.O.T.) and I would like to welcome you to The University of Michigan-Dearborn, to the city of Detroit, and to the state of Michigan! As members of this community we thank you for giving so much of your time and effort to help those that are so important to us.

S.W.O.T. was recently formed this past summer by Adam Harris and members of the executive staff. When Adam Harris came back from Alternative Spring Break in Lake Charles, Louisiana and after witnessing the teamwork and bonding of people around the idea of a better tomorrow, he was inspired to make an impression on his community at home, here in Detroit and its metropolitan area. From there he came to me and some others and asked if we wanted to dedicate ourselves in an effort to make change. Excitedly we accepted and began the challenge of getting others around us involved in creating a better tomorrow.

S.W.O.T. believes that “a better tomorrow, starts with our actions today. It is our job to serve our community for the preservation of humanity. From this day forward we will lead and not follow, and work toward understanding the socialization of our society.” As a student organization of The University of Michigan-Dearborn we are honored to help United Way in its efforts this year with Alternative Spring Break in Detroit.

Remember, change starts with you but it shouldn’t end there. Spread hope, spread compassion, and spread the desire to change what is weak. From there, success of all will follow. Again, S.W.O.T. and I welcome you, and thank you for your efforts.

Sincerely,

Daniel R. Kimmel
